Fatal Crash at Ofankor Barrier Leaves Several Feared Dead
Five people are feared dead, with several others seriously injured, following a devastating collision between a tipper truck and a Sprinter bus at the Ofankor Barrier on the Accra-Kumasi Highway in the early hours of Thursday, August 13, 2026.
The impact left the Sprinter bus severely damaged, trapping several passengers inside the wreckage and prompting an emergency rescue operation.
According to ADO1 Alex King Nartey of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), fire officers were dispatched to the scene to rescue trapped passengers and assist those who survived the crash.
Five victims have so far been confirmed dead, while several others sustained serious injuries and were transported to health facilities for medical attention.
The severity of the collision made the rescue operation particularly challenging, with emergency personnel working to safely extricate victims from the mangled vehicle.
Among the injured was a female victim whose legs were reportedly severed in the crash. She was evacuated from the scene by ambulance for urgent medical treatment.
The GNFS described the situation as volatile as its officers worked to bring the rescue operation under control and ensure that all trapped victims were safely removed from the wreckage.
The circumstances surrounding the crash, including what caused the tipper truck and Sprinter bus to collide, are yet to be fully established.
