Dr Mahamudu Bawumia Arrives at Baba Yara Stadium for NPP National Executives Election

NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has arrived at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) holds its National Delegates Congress and National Executives Election today, Saturday, October 3, 2026.

His arrival adds to the activity at the stadium, where thousands of party delegates have gathered from across the country for the major internal election.

About 7,163 delegates are expected to participate in the exercise, which is being supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC). The congress also includes consideration of proposed amendments to portions of the party’s constitution before delegates vote to elect national officers.

The election is taking place as the NPP completes its nationwide internal reorganisation ahead of the 2028 general election, with several aspirants contesting key national executive positions.

The Baba Yara Sports Stadium has been the centre of activity in Kumasi, with delegates, party officials, aspirants and supporters converging for the all-day event.

Dr. Bawumia, who secured the NPP’s presidential nomination in January 2026, is expected to participate in the proceedings as the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 presidential election.
