Dr. Frank Amoakohene’s Team Explains UK Childbirth Decision
The spokesperson for Dr. Frank Amoakohene has clarified that the Minister’s wife gave birth in the UK due to a medical condition and not because the couple had initially planned to have their baby abroad.
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast, the spokesperson explained that Mrs. Amoakohene developed Placenta Praevia, a pregnancy complication in which the placenta partially or completely covers the cervix. According to him, the couple had travelled to the UK for a vacation and had intended to return to Ghana before the delivery.
However, doctors reportedly advised against air travel after the condition was diagnosed.
“They had travelled to the UK and were due to return within a week. But my boss called me to arrange for his wife to be removed from the return ticket because doctors had diagnosed her with Placenta Praevia and advised that she remain in the UK for monitoring and treatment. Flying back to Ghana in that condition could have been dangerous,” the spokesperson stated.

During the interview, broadcaster Paul Yandoh expressed surprise at the explanation, reacting with disbelief as the details were discussed.
The clarification comes amid widespread social media criticism of the Minister’s decision to have his wife deliver in the UK. Critics had questioned why a government official and medical doctor would choose childbirth abroad instead of relying on Ghana’s healthcare system. His spokesperson maintains that the decision was driven by medical advice and unforeseen health circumstances rather than a deliberate plan to give birth outside the country
