POLICE ARREST SUSPECT IN MURDER OF UCC STUDENT
The Ghana Police Service has arrested 39-year-old Michael Mensah in connection with the murder of 20-year-old University of Cape Coast student, Innocentia Atsufui Avinu.
According to a police statement, the suspect was apprehended on June 15, 2026, at the Pedu Lorry Station in Cape Coast by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team after sustained intelligence-led operations.
Preliminary investigations indicate that on June 11, 2026, at approximately 6:48 p.m., the suspect, who reportedly claims to be a teacher and also works as a driver, picked up the deceased from Ayensu Plaza within the University of Cape Coast hostel enclave. He allegedly transported her to Hutchland Beach, where she was last seen alive.
The arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the tragic death that has sparked widespread concern among students and the general public.
