Interior Ministry Suspends Kantanka Security Services’ Licence Over Kwabenya Shooting Incident

The Ministry of the Interior has suspended the operating licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited with immediate effect following allegations involving the use of unapproved uniforms and the unauthorized possession and use of firearms and ammunition by some of its personnel.

According to the Ministry, the incident occurred at Kwabenya on June 21, 2026, and has raised serious concerns about compliance with Ghana’s private security regulations.

Preliminary investigations indicate that some personnel of the company may have breached established laws governing private security operations in the country. As a result, the Ministry has directed Kantanka Security Services Limited to cease all operations while investigations continue.

The suspension is expected to remain in force pending the outcome of the ongoing investigations, which will determine whether further regulatory or legal actions will be taken against the company and any individuals found culpable.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all private security firms operate within the confines of the law and maintain the highest standards of professionalism and public safety.

Authorities have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that appropriate measures will be taken based on the findings.
