Police Officer Allegedly Caught Taking Bribes at Abura Dunkwa Galamsey Site
In a video posted by Daily views GH ,a police officer has come under scrutiny after a video surfaced online allegedly showing him collecting money from illegal miners, popularly known as galamsey operators, at Abura Dunkwa in Ghana’s Central Region.
The footage, reportedly recorded by a galamsey operator identified as “Don Lapeans,” captures the officer receiving cash in GH₵200 notes from individuals at the mining site. In the video, the officer is also heard issuing a stern warning to those present, stating that anyone unable to pay would be forced to leave the site.
According to sources familiar with the incident, the recording was made during what is believed to be a routine visit by security personnel to clamp down on illegal mining activities. However, instead of enforcing the law, the officer is alleged to have demanded money from the miners in exchange for allowing them to continue operating.
The video has since sparked outrage on social media, with many Ghanaians expressing concern over alleged corruption within law enforcement and its impact on the fight against illegal mining. Galamsey remains a major issue in the country, contributing to environmental degradation, pollution of water bodies, and loss of livelihoods.
Authorities are yet to officially comment on the authenticity of the video or confirm whether investigations have been launched. However, calls are mounting for the Ghana Police Service to probe the matter and take appropriate disciplinary action if the allegations are proven.
