Nana Kofi Baffour Urges GFA to Reapply for Thomas Partey’s Canadian Visa

Travel advisor Nana Kofi Baffour.. has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to submit a fresh Canadian visa application for Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey, arguing that mistakes made in the initial application should be corrected and all omitted supporting documents included.

In a post shared on social media, Baffour suggested that the GFA should not abandon efforts to secure Partey’s entry into Canada, especially if Ghana progresses to stages of the FIFA World Cup that require matches to be played on Canadian soil.

His comments come after Partey was denied a Canadian visa ahead of Ghana’s opening World Cup match against Panama in Toronto. A subsequent appeal to Canada’s Federal Court was also dismissed, leaving the midfielder unavailable for the fixture. Court documents indicated that his visa application failed to disclose the criminal charges he is currently facing in the United Kingdom, a factor that Canadian immigration authorities considered during the application process.

Thomas Partey is currently facing seven counts of rape and one count of sexual assault in the UK. The allegations relate to complaints made by multiple women between 2020 and 2022. The former Arsenal midfielder has pleaded not guilty to all the charges, and his case remains before the courts. No verdict has been delivered, and he continues to deny all allegations.

Despite missing Ghana’s World Cup opener in Canada, Partey later joined the Black Stars in the United States after obtaining the necessary travel clearance, featuring in Ghana’s subsequent Group L fixture against England.

Baffour believes the GFA should learn from the earlier application by correcting any errors and submitting a complete application with all the required documentation if the team is scheduled to play another match in Canada.
